A collaboration of several months between the teams at StarkWare and Polygon labs culminated in featuring the Circle STARK protocol over the Mersenne prime field M31. This paper, written by StarkWare’s Shahar Pappini and David Levit and Polygon’s Ulrich Haböck, introduces a simple construction to make efficient STARKs for any finite field by using M31 over a circle.
